The process of creating habits, both good and bad, can be broken down into three parts: the cue that initiates the habit, the behavior that is the outward manifestation of the habit, and the reward that reinforces the habit.

THE CUE
Habits can form when a behavior is repeated in the presence of an environmental cue. To create healthy habits, we should focus on creating intentional cues in our daily environments and/or using cues that already exist in our daily environments

THE BEHAVIOR
At first, target habitual behaviors take conscious effort to perforrm but become more "automatic" over time. Therefore, early on, we should focus on creating an environment that makes it easier to perform the desired behavior
THE REWARD
Rewards reinforce habitual behaviors, increasing the likelihood that they stick. Deliberately creating rewards in your routine is part of establishing an environment that will help you create healthy habits.
